The 10 Best Isekai Anime With A Kid MC For A Fresh Start

Isekai anime are great, and they manage in their simplicity to often create entertaining series with good fantasy settings and engaging plots.

But occasionally, they may become quite repetitive, especially if you watch several in a row. And this is when a change of pace becomes necessary.

We as always are here to help you, and with this in mind, we offer you our list of the best isekai anime with a kid MC to add to your watchlist.

Remember that our lists are written based on our personal opinion and experience.

10. The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me?

The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me? is another anime released in 2020 in 12 episodes, adding to the large body of isekai released that year.

Shingo Ichinomiya is a 25-year-old office worker who goes to bed one night tired from work and mysteriously wakes up in the body of a 6-year-old boy named Wendelin von Benno Baumeister, the eighth son of a former noble family.

As the youngest in the family, he has no decision-making power whatsoever, but he can rely on a great talent for magic.

This isekai starts with interesting premises but unfortunately fails to live up to them, ending up soon becoming boring and dull.

The characters are also quite poorly written, and with little development and characterization. If you have low expectations you may well enjoy it, but we warned you.

9. By the Grace of the Gods

By the Grace of the Gods is one of the many isekai anime released in 2020, based on the 12-episode light novel of the same name.

Ryoma Takebayashi is a middle-aged man who suddenly dies one day, regretting that he did not live a particularly cheerful or fulfilling life.

But he will unexpectedly find himself in the presence of 3 deities, who decide to reincarnate him as a child in a world populated by all kinds of magical creatures.

Here he will find his great passion: breeding and domesticating slimes.

Unfortunately, as you can clearly see from the plot, this anime can’t boast a particularly entertaining or action-packed story. But at the same time, it makes it an excellent isekai if you are looking for something chill and simple.

8. The Faraway Paladin

The Faraway Paladin comes out in 2021 in 12 episodes and combines mystery and adventure with the usual isekai formula.

After being reincarnated, Will awakens in a fantasy world within a ghost town far from civilization in the guise of a child.

He is the only human in this town, which is why he will be raised by 3 monsters: Blood, a skeleton who teaches him how to fight. Gus, a ghost who teaches him magic and Mary, a mummy who teaches him religion and respect.

Years pass and Will has grown up, and it is time for him to leave to discover the world, his origins, and love.

The Faraway Paladin is an isekai that has good action scenes but focuses mainly on a coming-of-age plot as the protagonist discovers the world around him and new emotions.

7. My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! is an interesting isekai with an innovative premise.

The story follows Catarina, a young girl who, after being hit by a rock on the head, finds herself reincarnated as the villainess of the videogame she was playing before that happened.

The problem? Catarina knows that her character dies in every possible route!

And that’s why Catarina decides sets to out, in order to create her own happy ending, going against her fate.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! is a good isekai, which although it starts from the usual premise manages to differentiate itself from its peers.

Indeed, we regard it as one of the best underrated isekai anime.

6. The Wiseman’s Grandchild

Wise Man's Grandchild

The Wiseman’s Grandchild is a fairly underrated isekai, released in 12 episodes in 2019.

The story follows an overworked office worker named Shin who, after being hit by a car, finds himself reincarnated as an infant in a mysterious fantasy world.

Here he’s adopted and raised by the legendary wizard Merlin, who trains him in magic.

As Shin grows up, he becomes an incredibly skilled magician but struggles to relate with people, as he was raised in a forest. That’s how begins Shin’s adventure as he discovers the world and the people in it.

The Wiseman’s Grandchild is a good isekai, with an OP MC that relies on Shin’s character development rather than action scenes.

The animations are also quite good, and the plot entertains with success.

5. Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?!

Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?! is an isekai released in 2019 in 12 episodes that deserves a chance for its different-than-usual premise.

Adele von Ascham is a talented and wealthy 9-year-old girl, daughter of Viscount Ascham, who the moment she turns 10 begins to have a strong and mysterious headache that makes her remember her past life.

She remembers that she was Misato Kurihara, a talented Japanese girl who died saving a little girl, who found herself in the presence of God and asked to be reincarnated as a mediocre person.

Adele will decide to respect her wishes, deciding that she wants to live a humble life. But will she succeed in her intention?

This is a good isekai, which as you can see from the plot starts from different premises than usual, even if they’re not particularly interesting ones. We recommend watching it if you are looking for something fresh and entertaining.

4. Knight’s & Magic

Knight’s & Magic is a niche isekai anime, released in 2017 in 13 episodes adapted from the light novel of the same name.

The protagonist this time is an otaku with a great passion for mecha, who unexpectedly dies in a car accident.

But instead of dying, he is reincarnated in an alternate world in the guise of Ernesti Echevarria, a silver-haired little boy.

And his goal will be to become a pilot of Silhouette Knight, the huge mecha that are used in this world, aided by his modern knowledge.

Knight’s & Magic is a good blend of isekai, fantasy, and mecha, although we can’t promise you a masterpiece, but rather a simple and super entertaining anime.

3. Saga of Tanya the Evil

Saga of Tanya the Evil

Saga of Tanya The Evil is an excellent and unique isekai with politics, released in 2017 that you can’t miss.

It follows the story of Tanya, a young blonde girl who appears innocent but is actually a merciless and strong warrior on the battlefield, leading the Imperial Army.

Tanya was previously a Japanese bureaucrat, who was reincarnated as a child in a world destroyed by war as a punishment for his cynicism and blasphemy.

But instead of being desperate and humbled, he chose to be a cynical war machine in this world too.

Saga of Tanya The Evil is not to be missed if you are a fan of war-centered isekai, with a realistic and dark setting that deviates from the usual fantasy.

Tanya also is an excellent MC, ruthless, intelligent, and incredibly OP.

2. Ascendance of a Bookworm: Stop at Nothing to be a Librarian

Ascendance of a Bookworm

Ascendance of a Bookworm: Stop at Nothing to be a Librarian is a unique isekai without romance released in 2019 in 36 episodes.

The protagonist is Urano Motosu, a young college student with a boundless passion for books.

She reads anything she can get her hands on and has a dream of working as a librarian. But tragically, she dies in an accident just as she’s close to achieving her dream.

Her last wish is to be able to read more books in her next life, and that’s how she reincarnates as Myne, a five-year-old girl living in a medieval era when books were just beginning to be created. Her new life begins here!

Ascendance of a Bookworm: Stop at Nothing to be a Librarian has a theme all its own, completely deviating from the usual plots with princesses to rescue or demons to defeat.

Rather, it relies on a quiet and interesting plot, worldbuilding, and Myne’s character evolution.

1. Mushoku Tensei

Mushoku Tensei

Mushoku Tensei comes out starting in 2021 in multiple seasons, currently available on Hulu, and is one of the most popular isekai in recent times.

The main character is a 34-year-old man, depressed and defeated by life, who in an attempt to make sense of his existence saves a boy who was about to be run over by a car, dying in his place.

But instead of dying for good, he will awaken in a fantasy world in the guise of a talented child named Rudeus, retaining all his old memories.

From here he will begin a new life of his own, with the possibility of living a new existence from scratch.

Mushoku Tensei is hands down one of the best isekai anime in recent years.

Its worldbuilding is excellent ,filled with many fantasy creatures like dragons, and Rudeus is a great protagonist, with a great evolution that will also become strong and OP.

  1. In Knights and Magic the protagonist is a boy not a girl. In the episode which he meets the twins he is mistaken as a girl and Addy couldn’t believe a boy was so cute. Also when he meets the King, he couldn’t believe he was a boy. Erine say to the king, ” Do you want me to get undressed to prove it”

    • Yep, we totally feel the same way.

Unfortunately, with both anime being adaptations from light novels, especially within the isekai genre that sees numerous series every season, there’s never certainty about getting a sequel.

It all comes down to how the audience reacts, and that’s mainly what the animation studios use to decide if it’s worth the money and effort to continue.
Let’s just keep our fingers crossed and hope they change their minds and give us more seasons.

By the way, not sure if you’re interested, but we’ve got a discord channel if you want to chat about this or anything else.

  2. Mushoku tensei wouldve been great if not for all the ecchi content which is degradory towards males.great animation but content probably the worst.why is it so popular it spans so many seasons?beats me.people have weird, heavy taste.

    • Yep, you’ve got a point. The whole ecchi thing these days is a love-it-or-hate-it situation, and if it bothers you, that’s totally valid.
Even if some people likes it, it must be admitted that forcing ecchi into shows that weren’t designed specifically for it (like High School DxD) can be a bit jarring and throw off the whole vibe and pacing of the story.

Anyhow, stay tuned because we’re right now writing an updated list of the best isekai anime without ecchi that might be perfect for you.
