The 10 Best Isekai Anime With Dungeons To Collect Some Loot

Dungeons are one of the most popular components of videogames.

Exploring them far and wide in search of valuable treasures and rewards, or even defeating enemies and leveling up, has its charm and fun.

What if we told you that there are many isekai that within their worldbuilding have lots of dungeons?

So here you have our personal list based on our tastes and experience with the best isekai anime with dungeons.

10. So I’m a Spider, So What?

So I'm a Spider, So What?

So I’m a Spider, So What? is a recent isekai anime, released in 2021.

The story revolves around a group of students who were reincarnated in an alternate world after being caught in the deadly crossfire caused by the battle between the Hero and the Demon King.

All of them seem to have kept their normal appearance, but to everyone’s surprise, the protagonist is reincarnated as a spider and must quickly adapt to her new life.

So I’m a Spider, So What? is an isekai set in a videogame world, so like many others on this list it features references from the medium, such as level-ups, skills, and dungeons.

But selling to its qualities, it has to be said that although the premise seems great its story ends up not being that innovative, with a slow and dull beginning.

But if you are willing to wait, it gets better later on, so the choice is yours.

9. Arifureta – From Commonplace to World’s Strongest-

Arifureta

Arifureta is a fairly well-known isekai released in 2019 in 13 episodes.

A group of high school students is transported to a parallel world as the heroes are supposed to save it from destruction.

But while all the students seem to have exceptional skills, the protagonist Nagumo Hajime is the exception, as he is weak and has low stats.

After being betrayed and abandoned in a seemingly bottomless dungeon, Nagumo meets a blonde vampire and things start to change.

Arifureta is a good isekai, which focuses on psychology, character evolution, and romance over action.

And this goes mainly for the protagonist, with a huge personal evolution that will see him become one of the best anti-heroes in the isekai genre.

8. BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense.

BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense.

BOFURI is a 2020 isekai that while starting from basic premises manages to differentiate itself from other anime in its genre.

Kaede Honjou, who’s new to online MMORPGs, joins the latest released MMORPG game, invited by her friends.

As a beginner, Kaede chooses a large shield as her weapon and levels it up, to avoid being hurt while fighting monsters and exploring dungeons.

But to everyone’s surprise, the tactic proves to be incredibly effective, and she quickly becomes incredibly op and a legend in the server!

BOFURI must be your choice on this list if you want a cool protagonist who is different from the usual swordsman or wizard.

Kaede is a fun and unique female MC, perfect for a fun and almost parody-like isekai anime like this one.

7. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (DanMachi)

DanMachi is a popular isekai anime with an adaptation that started in 2015 in multiple seasons.

The dungeon is a mysterious place in the city of Orario, which conceals as many riches as dangers. Therefore, adventurers can join families, groups of people guided by deities with the purpose of reducing dangers, to make the exploration easier.

But our protagonist, Bell Craner, has quite different plans. He is the only member of Hestia’s family, and his goal is not riches or adventure, but to conquer the beautiful Aiz Wallenstein.

DanMachi is an entertaining isekai that bases its structure on comedy and ecchi scenes, with sporadic action moments.

It still manages to entertain thanks to a good cast of characters, well characterized and entertaining, and a good setting set entirely in a dungeon.

6. Sword Art Online

Sword Art Online

Sword Art Online is one of the most discussed and controversial isekai ever created. It was released starting in 2012 and it consists of multiple seasons, each set in a different alternate world.

The absolute protagonist of these seasons is Kirito, a strong MMORPG player, who together with Asuka and other allies will have to make his way through various obstacles in the alternate worlds.

And since these are actual videogames, these worlds will be full of references to the medium, with the use of terms such as cheats and level-ups, and of course the presence of dungeons.

Discussing SAO is never easy.

The first two seasons are quite bad for their cliché situations, poorly written characters, and weak plotlines. However, the third season, Alicization, has received praise for its improvement and is a good anime.

5. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash

Grimgar

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is an incredibly underrated isekai that harbors potential.

Haruhiro, finds himself mysteriously transported to a mysterious fantasy world. He only has memories of his name, and he soon discovers that others are in the same condition.

However, the arrival of monsters with the intention to kill them creates a sense of panic. Haruhiro realizes that to survive, he must fight and grow stronger by leveling up with each victory.

So what better time to hit some dungeon?

Although starting from fairly repetitive premises, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash manages to convince with its excellent and distinctive animations.

You can tell that the animators put a lot of effort into it, so it deserves a chance.

4. KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!

Konosuba

KonoSuba is one of the most popular isekai in recent times based on comedy and slice-of-life elements, released in 2016.

The main character is Kazuma Satou, a hikikomori who one day while trying to save a girl, dies in a car accident.

He will find himself in the afterlife facing the goddess Aqua, who offers him an alternative option to death: reincarnate in a fantasy world to defeat the king of demons, with the ability to bring anything into this world.

Kazuma will decide to accept and displace everyone with his choice, deciding to bring the goddess Aqua herself into the world!

From this premise begins their journey into a new world with MMORPG elements full of dungeons and mysterious creatures, starting from level 1 and with no money.

KonoSuba is based entirely on comedy, with few action scenes. It’s structured on a light slice of life formula, with ecchi and demented scenes.

But if you are looking for a simple isekai that can make you laugh, it’s a good choice.

3. Overlord

Overlord

Overlord is one of the best post-2000s isekai, with excellent dark fantasy vibes and an absurdly OP MC.

Momonga is the strongest player in Yggdrasil, an online MMORPG that’s about to shut down its servers after years of service.

Momonga decides to log in one last time before saying goodbye to its beloved game, but he’s surprised to find himself trapped in the game world as his avatar.

But instead of panicking, he decides to become the ultimate ruler of this world.

By now you must have gotten the hint, being set in a videogame world, the presence of dungeons and other references to videogame culture will be much present.

Overlord may seem trivial, but it is actually worth watching if you are a fan of the isekai genre because of its unique anti hero MC.

2. Log Horizon

Log Horizon

Log Horizon is hands down one of the most underrated isekai ever that we absolutely recommend you catch up on if you haven’t watched it yet.

The story revolves around the MMORPG world of Elder’s Tale, full of fantasy elements and dungeons, where all the players get trapped and are unable to log out for mysterious reasons.

The main character, Shiroe, along with Naotsugu and Akatsuki, decides to form a guild called Log Horizon to survive in this new world.

Log Horizon is an excellent isekai, with unique worldbuilding done incredibly well, based on politics and power.

The characters are also written almost perfectly, especially the main characters. Highly recommended.

1. .hack//Sign

.hack//Sign

.hack//Sign is an excellent isekai anime, and one of the progenitors of the isekai subgenre focused on MMORPG worlds. It was released in the early 2000s as part of a multimedia project.

The main character, Tsukasa, is a mage-class player who finds himself unable to log out of the game due to unknown causes.

This raises questions about the true reality of the game and if it’s just a virtual world or something more. But the plot will thicken soon, with plenty of mysteries and plot twists.

.hack//Sign has inspired modern anime such as Sword Art Online, Overlord, and many others, kicking off this subgenre that is greatly appreciated today.

And given this background, it wouldn’t even need to be said, but you’ll find plenty of dungeons and other videogame references.
